San Diego Desert Tours
Explore the oddities of San Diego’s desert with Gold Coast Town Cars! Leaving from San Diego several days a week, this tour is a fun opportunity to experience the eccentric oddities of our local desert – from a UFO scrapyard to the mysterious, abandoned Salton Sea.
Customizable Desert Tours
Like our other tours, Desert Tours are fully customizable: you can request the traditional stops (Coyote’s Flying Saucer Repair, Salvation Mountain, Slab City, Salton Sea, and Anza Borrego), or you can choose your own adventure. If you see somewhere you’d like to stop along the way, we’re always happy to oblige – the tour can be as short or as long as you’d like.

Coyote’s Flying Saucer Repair
Like our other tours, Desert Tours are fully customizable: you can request the traditional stops (Coyote’s Flying Saucer Repair, Salvation Mountain, Slab City, Salton Sea, and Anza Borrego), or you can choose your own adventure. If you see somewhere you’d like to stop along the way, we’re always happy to oblige – the tour can be as short or as long as you’d like.
Coyote loves to share his passion for flying saucers with others and will typically allow visitors to take a spin in his cart, for those adventure-seekers! Book a desert tour

Salvation Mountain
Another desert destination is Salvation Mountain and nearby Slab City. Salvation Mountain, the creation of Leonard Knight, is a man-made mountain covered in half a million gallons of latex paint.
What started as a small monument has become a bright, colorful mountain made with bits and pieces of scrap metal, tires, and car windows, all painted in a patchwork of stripes and color blocks of paint. Book a desert tour

Slab City / East Jesus
Slab City, just a few minutes’ drive away, is an off-the-grid community that features an eclectic sculpture garden and art yard called East Jesus, where visitors will find a vast collection of assemblage art made from refuse and other repurposed materials.
East Jesus combines an eccentric mix of photography, performance art, writing, music and multimedia art from thousands of artists into one large exhibit. Book a desert tour
Salton Sea
Once a booming resort town, Salton Sea and Bombay Beach are now largely abandoned, but remain a popular tourist destination for photographers and explorers alike.
The entire area is dry, salty lake bed, with abandoned buildings and colorful old boats dotting the landscape. If you are into unique and abandoned places, this town is right up your alley – photographers will love wild landscapes and other oddities throughout the area. Book a desert tour

The Tour Details
The tour will begin at a designated meeting point; from there, we’ll head east on I-8 E and begin our desert exploration. At each stop, you’ll have plenty of time to take photographs, walk around, and explore on your own. Tours will last the full day (roughly eight hours), and lunch will be included at a stop of your choice.
